Statement Zips

What is with visible zips at the moment!? Every time I find a cute dress or a nice pair of shorts I look at the back, and BOOOOMMM! Visible zip! For years dressmakers have bee striving to effectively cover zips in the most inconspicuous way, that all seems to have been thrown out the window. Have clothes makers become lazy now? Or is it just that it's cheaper to not cover zips, making the clothes cheaper and attracting  more customers? Still, I'd rather pay an extra quid or so and get myself some clothes with don't have shiny cheap looking zips ruining the carefully constructed lines and curves of the garments! Especially with shorts, when the zip goes straight down the back - I have enough trouble making sure I haven't tucked my skirt into my pants, or left half my t-shirt hanging out of my high-waisted jeans at an odd angle, without having to check that the zip on my shorts is going in a straight line down my ass : *Fed Up Face*
Don't get me wrong, sometimes statement zips can add to a garment, make it a bit more interesting or add a flattering line that draws attention to curves or tiny waists. BUT! When they seem to just have been accidentally left uncovered they can ruin a potentially awesome piece of clothing, take these sequin shorts for example...

... the zip isn't even straight on the model! I wouldn't have a hope of getting it straight so that I don't look weirdly wonky hip-wise. I guess I'll just have to keep on looking for sequin shorts and hope for the best!
What are your thoughts on statement zips, yay or nay?

Film Premeres

I usually love the fashion at film premieres, the fancy dresses I wish I had the opportunity to wear, and the smart suits that make every guy look amazing. But recently there have been some massive disappointments. Probably one of the biggest film premieres this year, media coverage wise, was the new Twilight film. I was anxious to see what the female cast would wear, with such different styles and looks I thought there was sure to be some breath-taking outfits...
But then Kristen Stewart turned up in these:
http://www.elleuk.com/var/elleuk/storage/images/star-style/news/red-carpet-report-twilight-premiere/14757076-1-eng-GB/red-carpet-report-twilight-premiere_GB.jpghttp://imworld.aufeminin.com/dossiers/D20121113/kristen-stewart-bum-dress-twilight-premiere1-095746_L.jpg
And all hope went straight out the window!
Both the outfits were extremely unflattering; the black lacy jumpsuit completely hid Kristen curves and makes her legs look a very odd shape. Whilst the nude coloured, highly revealing dress, leaves nothing to the imagination and completely washes her out. It seems a shame that people with that rare English Rose skin wouldn't take advantage of the gift and contrast colours with their skin. I wish they would wear gorgeous deep colours, and bright primary colours. Although it would be an injustice not to mention that I admire Jesse J, as she always takes advantage of her skin tone and wears bold colours (below).
Showing off her pins ... Jessie J
And then came Samantha Banks at the Les Misérables premiere, and that dress made up for all the mistakes of the premieres this, and any other, year. The shape is the most flattering down-right-gorgeous thing I have seen in so long. I fell in love instantly! I'm not entirely sure of the bling over the shoulders and arms, but it does make the dress a lot more glitzy, which is what the red carpet is all about. I hope I see one of these in the high-street shops soon, because I need to get my hands on this badboy!

Christmas Outfit

I love Christmas, it's the perfect excuse to over-dress and it makes the day even more special! The only trouble is trying to top the year before- I'm not sure I could get more Christmasy than last year when I wore a Santa outfit!

But I'm sure gonna try!

New Party Purchase

http://riverisland.scene7.com/is/image/RiverIsland/628930_rollover?wid=1500

I was naughty the other day, went into River Island and impulse bought myself some sexy new shorts (on the left). They're a perfect combination: the chiffon skirt somehow makes the short-shorts look more classy, but at the same time adds a bit of that much sought after mystery.

For an outfit to wear on a night out, I think these would go beautifully with a fair few tops/shoes I saw whilst in River Island (on the left) and when the weather warms up again they'd be amazing dressed down with a cropped top and army-style boots for a quirky twist (on the right)...

Can't wait to wear these out! What do you think of the combinations?

Just a quick note to say...

I went shopping today and some of the clothes in the main high-street stores were amazing. But, some just made me want to do this...

... poke them with a stick back into the Fashion Hell from whence they came!

Have you seen anything particularly horrendous in the shops lately?

Cheryl Cole: Access All Areas

http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article1440229.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/Cheryl:+Access+all+areasI watched the Cheryl Cole documentary type thing the other night, I know I was probably supposed to be focusing on her struggles and achievements, but all I could do was envy her clothes - I want to steal her style so bad! And maybe her personality a little bit too, she's so lovely!

The only thing she wore that I wasn't completely enamored with was the jumpsuit to the right. The front seemed to hang a little strangely sometimes, although having said that the rest of it was so beautifully cut and it flattered her shape so well. I wish I could find a jumpsuit that actually fits me, they never seem to be long enough for my body and too wide for my waist! Although that seems to be true of most clothes, as nothing seems to be made to fit an hourglass figure these days.

Cheryl Cole looks  good in such different styles, the jumpsuit was quite a glamorous clubbing style, whereas below she's pulling off a girl power gangsta style with equal success!

Recently I've been gathering bits-and-bobs of different styles of clothing each time I go shopping - my hope is that I'll be able to make different outfits of different styles to wear depending on my mood. I really want to be able to pull off the look above, but I might be too cutesy unfortunately. It reminds me of the style Andie wears in Step Up 2: The Streets (shown below), which I was lusting after at the time, and ever since to be honest!

I think the most impressive thing about Cheryl Cole is how amazing she looks in her 'everyday clothes', she's got such a cute casual style but still looks gorgeous. It doesn't seem to be something that many people can do- look like they haven't put much effort into their outfit/make-up but still look stunning- completely jealous!

Cheryl Cole is definitely being added to my list of Inspirational-Fashion-Icons! Who's on yours?

Adventure Time Nails!

Adventure Time is the most disturbing kids cartoons out there, but also one of the most amazing! The characters are a mix of crazy cute, and seriously weird, but they're all animated in such pretty colours!! So I decided that I'd paint my nails a bit funky today, with Adventure Time characters and stripes...

... I used my new nail art tools, basically just sticks with different sized balls on the end that I can dip into the nail varnish, so it took a while but I think it turned out pretty well.
What do you think?

Faux Fur, Faux Pas?

When I was small we didn't have much money, so to my Brother and I 'toys' were the huge cardboard boxes my Dad brought home from work, and the dressing-up-box. At the time we didn't realise that other kids were playing with plastic wendy-houses big enough to fit tables and chairs, or that a SNES even existed, but we were happy. We could let our imaginations run wild all day, everyday, a box could be anything- a boat, a train, a spaceship, a house, or a fun place to eat a Pombear treat..

And the dressing up box, which was actually a big basket of broken/old clothes, was a never ending Mary Poppins style box with a million options for outfits that we could don to play different characters in our spur of the moment plays.

My favourite item in the dressing-up-box was a huge faux fur coat that belonged to my Nana, the lining was worn and it smelt vaguely of attic, but it felt divine and made me feel like a  glamorous Greta Garbo type 1930's film star! But as I grew up I learnt that faux fur coats were a bit of a faux pas in the current fashion scene, and apart from seeing the occasional beautiful coat when watching an old movie, I completely forgot about fur coats until a couple of months back.

When looking for a new winter coat my mother pointed out a white-leopard faux fur coat in Marks and Spencer's, she persuaded me to try it on, which I did protestingly- huge furry coats only seem to suit a select few people so I was cautious. It was the warmest, snuggley-est, softest thing I've worn since that old dressing-up coat! They didn't have it in my size unfortunately, and it was a little expensive for my student budget, so I'm on the look-out. I must admit I have found some potential choices on a site that's new to me - Faux Fabulous Fashion- although they're a lot more than my student budget, they are absolutely gorgeous!

What are your thoughts on faux fur coats, faux pas or fabulous?

Gangsta Style

Hidden Wedge High Tops - River Island, Gold Dance Leggings - Republic, Chunky Knit Jumpers - New Look, Black Snapback - DC, Maroon Snapback - Obey

About two months ago I bought some hidden-wedge high tops, I had no problem finding things to wear them with -  I was mostly contrasting them against cutesy clothing but I really wanted to create an edgier gangsta-style look with them. Recently some shiny gold leggings caught my eye whilst I wandered around Republic (checking out the shoes which are too expensive for me to buy without feeling intense amounts of buyer-guilt afterwards). After laughing at them for about 10 minutes I just HAD to try them on! They fit like a glove (surprisingly flattering), they were exactly what I needed to create my gangsta style, and only £22 with student discount! I paired the leggings and high tops with a baggy grey jumper I have, courtesy of Marks and Spencer's (about 2 years old now!), which looks very similar to the New Look version above. One of my house-mates owns a purple snapback which I have had my eye on for a while now,  the ultimate gangsta accessory. The black/maroon snapbacks above would go very well with this outfit, I will definitely be putting one on my Christmas list so I can complete the look!!
What do you think about these outfits?

A Little Self Introduction

My middle name is Alice, and I’ve always lived up to my namesake - Alice in Wonderland. Most of my time is spent in my own world- colourful and bright with plenty of wacky ideas. I’ve developed a love of all things 'fashion' over the past few years; clothes, shoes, make up, accessories, nail varnish... the whole lot!

My Wonderland resembles more of a walk-in-wardrobe than a land filled with creepy creatures! I disappear into it to create outfits in different styles for different occasions, moods and most importantly living in England, the weather.
I'm starting this blog as an outlet for my outfit ideas, and to hopefully find people with a similar interest in all things fashion so I can discover new things and share my ideas/reviews of clothing, makeup etc!
